Born in March 1984, Dolson Lewis ─ formerly known as Ludo D. Rodriguez-Pascal ─ is an award-winning illustrator and artist, a writer and a filmmaker.
Attracted to comics from a young age, he spent most of his time sketching, reproducing the various characters whose adventures he could read about: from Corto Maltese to Tintin, including Asterix or Spirou. Initially trained in traditional techniques of pencil, watercolor, and Indian ink by the painter Van Que, and later in charcoal and oil painting techniques by Olivier Bernex, it was at the age of 11 that the desire to create his own characters began to emerge with the creation of several heroes like Cam & Leon, Charly Renard Detective or Novak: UFO Hunter.
After earning his baccalaureate, it was very natural for him to pursue artistic studies, and he graduated in visual communication (graphic design, publishing, advertising). But his professional artistic adventure in the comic book industry began in 2014 when he met Thierry Mornet (editorial manager for Delcourteditions). Invited to join the creative team of the comic book series Guardian of the Republic, published by Hexagon Comics, they collaborated on a 24-page episode entitled Heroes which was released in December 2015.
From 2016 onwards, he worked on various projects and notably had theopportunity to illustrate an alternative cover artwork for Back to the Future – Vol.2, the official comic book written by John Barber & Bob Gale, published by IDW Publishing (USA) & Flamival editions (France).
In late 2017, he was selected by the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (CNAM, Paris) to create a promotional illustration for the institution, succeeding the famous artist François Schuiten.
In 2018, he met Deborah M. Pratt (co-creator of the iconic TV series Quantum Leap and director of Grey's Anatomy), with whom he worked on developing a graphic novel project, a direct sequel to Quantum Leap, based on the feature film she was writing. Unfortunately, this project did not go beyond the stage of graphic research.
Nevertheless, Dolson reunited with Deborah in 2023 to work on a cover illustration for her novel Mirrors: The Dragon Mirror.
2020 marks his return on the series Guardian of the Republic, working on a brand new 32-page episode released the same year in both Classic edition (in color) and Collector edition (black and white).
Being an illustrator of comics/graphic novels has been more than just educational, and his healthy and enjoyable collaboration with Thierry Mornet has allowed him to improve as an artist, refine his style, and especially clarify his desires in the field of illustration. Passionate about cinema since childhood, the walls of his room have always been filled with movie posters. From Indiana Jones to Hook, through Star Wars and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, what he loves above all are the so-called 'classic' posters, hand-drawn by talented illustrators like Drew Struzan,Richard Amsel or John Alvin.
And this is the direction he decided to follow in 2022, wanting to create even more unique, elaborate, precise, and realistic works: movie posters, video game covers, series, or even covers of novels or comics/graphic novels.
In 2023, he was approached by Kevin Croxton (director, Emmy Award winner) to create the illustrated poster for Indiana Jones and the Treasure of the Aztecs' a tribute film to Steven Spielberg's famous saga. Released in August of the same year, this film was presented at numerous international film festivals and won several awards. Among these awards, Dolson won the Best Poster Award in September 2023 at the ONIROS Film Awards (New York), and the Best Poster Award in October 2023 at the New York International Film Awards.
Since the beginning of 2024, while continuing to draw illustrated posters, he has been expanding his creative universe and starting to create in a realistic style inspired by the famous paintings of the Renaissance.
